Ion Tițoiu Museum · Web platform · Art & online museum

A museum to walkstep by step.

The official website of the engraver and draughtsman Ion Tițoiu, built as an online museum: a seven-movement scroll prologue leads visitors into a 3D museum with themed rooms, alongside an inventoried archive of the works, a documentary page and a map of the exhibitions.

The project story

  1. Context

The website presents five decades of engraving, drawing and painting by Ion Tițoiu, an artist born in 1949 in Straja, Dobruja, and includes the page for the exhibition "Inițiații" (The Initiates), held at the Great Synagogue in Constanța in September 2026.

  2. The approach

On the live website, the homepage is not a list of sections but a scroll prologue divided into seven movements numbered in Roman numerals: the drawing of the wave with an eye, the filmed sea, the engraving studio, a short timeline, the constellation of exhibitions and the invitation to enter the museum. An "Enter the museum directly" button stays visible for those who want to skip the prologue.

  3. The solution

The website brings together a 3D museum with twelve themed rooms (from the Tomis Peninsula and The Wave to Portraits and The Pen Nib), a curator's walk, an archive of 410 works with a record page for each, a documentary page and the page for the "Inițiații" exhibition. On devices without WebGL, the website shows the works one by one.

Features and characteristics

  • Seven-movement prologue

The homepage unfolds on scroll in seven movements with video clips and animated works, an I–VII progress indicator and the line "Descend — seven movements to the museum".

  • 3D museum with a curator's walk

3D rooms that visitors move through with W A S D or by touch, with a museum plan (M key), the curator's walk (T key) and the option to step closer to a work.

  • Inventoried archive

The catalogue of works from 1972–2026, filterable by cycle, motif and period, with search by title and chronological ordering.

  • A record page for every work

Individual pages with title, year, room, technique and inventory number (for example IT-008), an enlarged view and related works shown alongside.

  • Constellation of exhibitions

The cities where the works have been exhibited appear as stars in an interactive sky; approximate years are explicitly marked as such.

  • Exhibition page

A dedicated page for the "Inițiații" exhibition, with the venue, dates, an enlarged poster and admission details, and a notice that the exhibition has ended.

  • Romanian and English, with ambient sound

An RO / EN switch on the pages and an ambient sound button; Satie's Gymnopédie begins as visitors enter the museum.

What stands out

  • An old-paper palette of cream and sepia that carries on the tone of the artist's ink drawings.
  • Classic serif headings (Cormorant and EB Garamond) and small upper-case labels, as in a museum catalogue.
  • Navigation kept to a minimum: an "Enter the museum directly" button, the exhibition label and a settings button.
  • Documentary honesty shown on the website: approximate years are marked as such, and the mosaics are labelled as working reproductions.
  • A non-3D version for devices without WebGL, with the works presented one by one.
